On Easter Sunday, the Coast Guard medevaced a 30-year-old male crewmember from the National Geographic Venture, about 15 miles off Coos Bay, Oregon.
The crew reported the man was suffering from severe vomiting and shortness of breath. After consulting a flight surgeon, a helicopter from Air Station North Bend hoisted the patient at 8 a.m. and transported him to Bay Area Hospital in stable condition.
“Safe and efficient medical evacuations of mariners are only possible through closely coordinated efforts from start to finish,” said Lt. Christopher Saylor, Coast Guard Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.
